what is hooping or hoop flow?

We all remember playing with the hula-hoop as a child. Hoop dance or hoop flow uses the same prop and premise but is slightly different. For a start, we use adult-sized hoops.
Hoop flow or hoop dance is a form of art that includes waist, leg and chest hooping (you could even progress to hoop on your nose!) and other on and off body transitions that work the core and, improve overall body strength, balance and flexibility. It is proven that an hour of hooping can help you burn over 400 calories!
This awesome fact was found by the American Council of Exercise through a study conducted on hooping in 2011. Aptly dubbed, “exercise in disguise”, hula hooping provides a total body workout and has major calorie-burning and cardiovascular benefits. Not only that, hoopers are also said to have relaxing, meditative and sometimes, truly transformational experiences through hooping. The simple act of hooping connects the body, the mind, and the spirit to channel flow, break internal boundaries, and improve creative self-expression.
A dynamic, playful, and, wildly addictive form of movement, hula hooping will leave you energized, inspired, and asking for more! If you’re wondering how this plastic circle can create so much magic, join us for one of our classes , and see for yourself!

what is poi?

Poi refers to both a performing art and the prop used in it. Commonly used in circus performances too, poi is a pair of equal length ropes weighted at the ends with different materials. With its roots in ancient Maori culture, poi dance involves the swinging and spinning of the equipment in rhythmical patterns. The art form has evolved over the years to fire poi, tail poi, and LED poi, to name a few.
With benefits similar to hooping, poi dance is an energetic and playful activity that improves flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination. While encouraging creative self-expression, poi spinning is proven to have a stimulating effect on both sides of the brain thereby improving bi-lateral motor skills and concentration.
